Daniel S. Hurd, D.O.; F.A.O.C.D.
Daniel S. Hurd, D.O., is board certified by the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology. He is the medical director of New River Dermatology. Dr. Hurd serves as the Program Director for the Department of Dermatology at Montgomery Regional Hospital and Edward Via Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. In addition, Dr. Hurd serves as an associate clinical professor of dermatology for the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, the Edward Via School of Osteopathic Medicine, and the College of Health Sciences' Physician Assistant Program.
Dr. Hurd is a graduate of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his training in general and surgical dermatology at Grandview Hospital and Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio, and has studied under world-renowned dermatologic and Mohs skin cancer surgeons and laser specialists. Dr. Hurd has been published in his field and has received numerous national awards for medical lectures and research.
Dr. Hurd has served on the executive committees of both the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology and the West Virginia Dermatological Society. His other professional memberships include the American Academy of Dermatology, American Osteopathic Association, American Medical Association, American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, and the Virginia Medical Society.
Barbara Miller, RN, FNP
Barbara is a family nurse practitioner who is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She is also a member of the Dermatology Nursing Association. She has been in the medical field since 1980 and specifically in dermatology since 2002. Previously, she worked in rehabilitation medicine and also as an obstetrical nurse manager for a hospital.
She was drawn to medicine because of her passion for helping patients, and she enjoys interacting with new people every day.
Barbara received her nursing degree at the State University of New York at Delhi and her Family Nurse Practitioner degree at Community General Hospital in Syracuse, NY. She is licensed to practice in both Virginia and New York.
Susan Gaither, RN, CNP
Susan is a nurse practitioner who began her career in medicine in 1998 because of her love of taking care of others. Prior to joining New River Dermatology full time in 2007, she was an emergency room nurse in Princeton, West Virginia. She was also a travel nurse in emergency rooms in Tampa, Florida, prior to that. She found she was drawn to the specialty of dermatology and its complexities and made it her full-time career in 1999. Susan began practicing as a Nurse Practitioner in dermatology in 2004.
Susan received her nursing degree at Bluefield State College and her masters in nursing from Radford University. She is also a member of the Dermatology Nurses Association.
Angie Brewster, PA-C
Angie received her physician assistant bachelor of science degree from the Jefferson College of Health Sciences in 2004. She then immediately began a career in dermatology in Bluefield, Virginia, because of her fascination with the many different conditions that can affect the skin.
She is certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants, and is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants.
